Despite struggling on the front nine at Pleasant Valley Country Club, Harding Academy’s Jack Henry Wise placed 11th in the Overall State Golf Tournament on Thursday in Little Rock.
Wise was only able to make par on one hole on the front nine, which, along with double bogeys on holes six and eight, put him behind from the start.
“Jack had a very frustrating front nine, shooting plus-10 on the front,” Harding Academy head coach Caleb Hall said.
Wise came out on the back nine and played a much more solid game.
He was able to get par on four holes and had two birdies as well in the back nine.
Wise finished with a score of 84. The winner scored a 73.
“I was so proud of how he battled back on the back nine, Hall said. “He had two birdies and was plus-2 on the back nine. For a sophomore to have the composure to pull himself together after a plus-10 front nine is rare. We’re going to see great things from him in the next two years.”
Wise made All-State in 3A, along with his teammates Kyle Ferrie and Kayden Swindle. In 5A, Bo Simpson and Jack Williams of Searcy made the All-State team.
