A one-vehicle accident just before noon Monday at Arkansas Highway 11 and Rayburn Road claimed the life of a 29-year-old Judsonia man and injured a 36-year-old passenger from Searcy.

According to the fatal crash summary from the Arkansas State Police, Mark A. Hemmert, who was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition, was southbound on Highway 11 and failed to negotiate a left curve near Rayburn Road. His vehicle left the road and struck multiple trees. It came to a stop facing south in a ditch.

Hemmert was pronounced dead on scene. Jennifer Baswell, the passenger, was taken to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center in Little Rock to be treated for her injuries.

The weather condition was clear and the road condition was dry, according to Trooper Andrew Lay.
