Assistance: The Community Action Program for Central Arkansas has three available programs -- 1: "Beat the Heat Fan Program," offering 27 box fans to those eligible in White County; 2: accepting applications for the Weatherization Assistance Program; 3: Summer Utility Assistance Program, regular and crisis, for electric and utilities. Spaghetti supper: The Bald Knob Rotary Club will host its annual Spaghetti Supper and Silent Auction on Friday at the new Bald Knob High School Cafeteria, 901 N. Hickory St., from 5:30-7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from any member or at Who Dat's, Southern Bank and First Community Bank. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children under 12 and free for children under 3.

12-step program: Break Free: A New Beginning, a Christ-centered 12-step recovery meeting, will be held Saturday at New Beginning Ministries, 1009 Brundridge St. in Pangburn from 7-8 p.m.

Meeting: The White County Creative Writers group will meet Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Simmons First Bank, 401 S. Main St. in Searcy. Beginning writers are welcome. They meet the third Monday of the month.

Lecture: ASU-Beebe will host Cara Brookins, author of "Rise: How a House Built a Family," on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Searcy High School Performing Arts Center. Brookins will discuss the book, a memoir about escaping domestic violence with her four children and building a 3,500-square foot home from the ground up with their own hands. Fundraiser: The Literacy Council of White County will host One Magical Evening: Family Fundraiser for Literacy on Sept. 23 at the Carmichael Community Center, 801 S. Elm St. in Searcy from 5-8 p.m. There will be a catered meal, children's games, activties, entertainment and silent auction. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under.

Veterans benefit fair: A Veterans Benefit Fair will be held Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Army National Guard Armory, 3105 S. Main St. in Searcy. Bring DD214 forms. Assistance with health-care enrollment, VA benefits and more.

Block party: White County 4-H will host a countywide block party Sept. 28 from 4-6 p.m. on the White County Courthouse lawn. This is for new and returning families and those interested in 4-H. There will be free hot dogs and water. Qualifying registrants for 4-H are between the ages of 5 and 19.

Meeting: The Christian Motorcyclists Association local chapter Thundering Grace will meet Oct. 2 at Western Sizzlin in Searcy. Fellowship begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m.

Meeting: The White County Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will meet Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Carmichael Community Center. They meet the first Monday of each month.
